   General Notes:

Written by Itha Steele Ahlstrom, February 1963.

I am the youngest child of M. M. Steele, Jr. and Charlotte Moore LeFevre, having been born February 13, 1913 at Beaver, Beaver, Utah. My family had moved to Beaver for educational purposes and were living on the campus of the school the winter of my birth. When I was 6 months old, we moved to Delta, Utah. There I was blessed and baptized and went to church and held many offices therein. My schooling commenced at Sutherland and ended after graduating from Delta High School in the year 1932.

My brother Arthello married Eva Ahlstrom, and through this marriage I met her older brother Reno LaVar Ahlstrom and married him two years later in the Manti Temple May 29, 1934. At this writing we have been married 29 years and two sons and two daughters have been born to bless our lives.

Our first home was at Delamar, Nevada, a ghost town just 30 miles souh of Caliente, Nevada. My father, Arthello, Ben Bunker and Reno were engaged in prospecting and mining. We lived there for a year, then I went to Delta to await the birth of our first child.

We have since lived in Modena,Utah, Kanosh, Utah, Salt Lake City (for three years during World War II), then moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah for 10 years, then working at farming and construction.

In 1953 Reno came to McGill and lived here for one year while we stayed in Pleasant Grove. During that year I worked in the Relief Society as counselor and then president. We all moved to McGill August 16, 1954, all except Annette who stayed in Pleasant Grove to go to practical nursing school.

We lived for two years in a place just east of town called Steptoe in a two-room tin shack. Then Kennecott sold the town of McGill to its employees, and we were able to buy a "real" house.

Six years ago Reno's health started to fail him, so today he has had to take early medical retirement. As the cost of living these days is very high and we still have two teenage kids to raise, I have gone to work at the age of 50 as a janitor for Kennecott, and, the good Lord willing, I hope to work for 10 more years.

Annette married Sydney Young of Lehi, Utah, and they have three sons. LaVar Steele, at the age of 7 years met with a drowning accident April 32, 1947 at Pleasant Grove, Utah and there he is buried. Vaughn Lee, age 17, and Phyllis, age 15, are attending the White Pine High School at Ely, Nevada. We are living in McGill, Nevada working for Kennecott Copper for the past 9 years.
