1814 RESIDENCE: Lewis, Nathan, Personal History: I was bound ou to John D. Grant a Scotchman and I staid with him for the space of five years and found very hard fair.

1819 RESIDENCE: Lewis, Nathan, Personal History: On account of the hard fair I was taken away and bound out to one John K. Jutson a farmer and staid their for the space of two years.

1821 RESIDENCE: . . . and then I was bound out to Nort Bliss as blacksmith to learn the traid and thear I found very hard fair for the space of five years, which caused my health to be very poor and has bin ever since.

1826 RESIDENCE: Lewis, Nathan, Personal History: . . . and from thence I went to seek a home for myself. I went to Troy sitty sixty miles from my other place on the head of the North River. And there I labored for the space of nine months. . .

1827 RESIDENCE: Lewis, Nathan, Personal History: . . . and from thence I took my jurney for the west up the Canal to Buffalo and from thence to Upper Canadah in four weeks. After ariveing in upper Canadah one month I was takeing with the fever ague and it remained with me for the space of five months. I was entertained in the house of Nelson McDermonds . . .

1830 MARRIAGE: Upper Canada. Lewis, Nathan, Personal History: And then I found me a companion and took her to wife hoose name was Jemima Sydam the daughter of Humphrey and Anna Sydam. We was married September 9, 1830.

1831 RESIDENCE: Lewis, Nathan, Personal History: We staid in Canadah until the next May and from thence started for my native land. We was carried in the stage to Lockport on the Western Canal. Then we took water and went to Albany and from their to Delaware County in the state of New York where my relation was.

1836 BAPTISM: NY, Delaware, Courtrite: Lewis, Nathan, Personal History: . . . I remained in that section of the country asbout five years and then came the fulness of the everlasting gospel and siluted my ears . . . and then my own . . . rejected me . . . I embraced the gospel of Jesus Christ in the township of Courtrite and county of Delaware State of New York on the 10 day of February 1836. 1838 RESIDENCE: Lewis, Nathan, Personal History: I let Silas Smith have my oldest girl, Ase Smith my boy and John Smith my baby and we awl started for Missourie in the spring 1838 and I arrived there August the 13, 1838 when the war commenced with the saints and there I was married.

Lewis, Nathan, Personal History: I arrived there August the 13, 1838 when the war commenced with the saints and there I was married [to Rebecca W. Johnston. [I have a one-page sheet entitled "The Genealogy of Nathan Lewis and Eamily (as recorded by him in his journal) " which consists of the dates of birth and marriage of his wife Jemima and their children, his wife Rebecca and their children, and his wife Sarah E. Parks. This record says "Nathan Lewis married to Rebecca W. Johnston Nov. the 6, 1838." This date seems more likely, as he arrived in Missouri August 13, 1838 and left there in the spring of 1839. His history states he left Kirtland in the spring of 1838. Had he been married at that time, he would not have farmed his children out to others to care for.]
