Reference Note 3
Records of the Watermen and Lightermen's Co. held at the Guildhall Library, London.
Could find no record of an apprenticeship in these records, yet he is listed in the 1841 census (HO107/1048/4) at East Lane as a lighterman's apprentice. Also interesting to note the regulations allowing membership without having served an apprenticeship weren't changed till 1865.
