John Heft Karns was born 8 Dec 1823 and died 24 April 1889. He was a life-long resident of Pennsylvania, mostly in Bedford County. He married Rachel Hixson 6 Aug 1846. Rachel was born 15 March 1824 and died 16 April 1893. John was a son of Jacob, son of Philip Karns, Sr., the earliest documented ancestor of our branch of the Karns family. John and Rachel had ten children, five of whom are shown here, plus a son of Emily, for whom we have no picture.
The others for whom we have no photographs, are, in birth order: Henry, born 1851; Jacob, born 1852; Albert, born 1857; and Martha Jane, born 1866, who married Wilson Nycum. We hope family members can provide additional pictures to help complete the pictorial history of this family.
