We have no detailed records before 1953, when Verna Karns began keeping newspaper clippings. Here is the text of the newspaper account:
Karns Family Reunion
The 38th consecutive reunion of the Karns family was held August 22 at Wright Park in Dodge City with 76 at the dinner. Plans were made for the next reunion to be held the third Saturday in August, 1954. Scads of fried chicken, salads, cakes, and pies were enjoyed, also a late afternoon lunch of cantaloup brought from Rocky Ford, Colo., by Mr. and Mrs. Carl Karns.
Those attending were Messrs. and Mesdames John Karns, Scott Jay, Bucklin; Alden Loomis, Kinsley; Fred Jay, Wilbur, Max, Beverly and Bessie; Clifford Jay, Stevie, Rickie and Bruce; Roy Jay, Ronnie and Terryl, all of Leoti; Gordon Ramsey and Janie; Harry Karns, Walter Rice, Greensburg; Art Ratzlaff, Minneola; J. May Wilder and Michael of Alexander, La.;
Also Mrs. H. M. Fendley and Betty Sue, Omaha, Nebr.; Mrs. Bill Henderson, Craig, Peggy, Earl and Mrs. Albert Peters, Dodge City; A. W. Karns, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Karns, Carolyn and Dennis, Pratt; Mr. and Mrs. Carl M. Karns and Sharon of Colorado Springs; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Robinson and Pamela of Topeka; Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Stwalley, Hutchinson; Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Ladd, Lawrence; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Karns, Mr. and Mrs. William Carlin, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stwalley, Keith and Clyde, Ford; Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Paxton, Jimmie Karns and Miss Dorothy Clark, of Greensburg; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Carlin, Dixie, Richard, Diana and Roger, Bucklin; and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Haley and Mike, Dodge City. Afternoon callers were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Haley of Ford.
