This fragment of an 1870 census index shows Rachel Ladd, age 49, female, white, born in New York, living in Boscobel, Grant County, Wisconsin. We have no records of John Ladd after an 1858 land purchase and the 1860 census, but we do have records of Rachel alone, living in the home of other persons, including William Miller in Lancaster and James Cummins in Boscobel.
