Danny Paul Baker was the first husband of Joan Ladd. Their two sons are David and Mark, who now go by the surname Rogers after their adoption by Reid Rogers, Joan's second husband. Dan was killed in a plane accident in Canada on 12 Sep 1978. He is buried in the Sarcoxie, Missouri cemetery, the town in which he lived and carried out his ministry at the time of his untimely death.His inscription reads thus:

A beloved son, husband and father and a minister of the Gospel
of Jesus Christ.
For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
