01-The Ladd place, 2006

The Ladd place, where Elno Boyd "Dick" and Mary "Mamie" (Anderson) Ladd lived and where, for several years after Dick died, Mamie and her children lived. Mamie married Will Hood in 1928 and they lived there for many years before moving into Cushing. The house has undergone transformations and two fires since those days, and this is a view taken 29 May 2006. Mr. Grissom lived there in 2006. He has been remodeling the house. In the 1930s and '40s, when I, Forrest Jr., was familiar with it, there was a wire fence around the front yard, with flower beds on the south and east of the large porch. There was a cement walk from the south edge of the yard and around the house to the front and east. At the northeast corner, where the pump house stands now, was a windmill and just to the north a "milk house," where the cream separator and associated equipment was located. Just behind the house were a cellar and a smoke house, with a large garden north of them. There was a pear tree just east of the windmill and outside the yard fence. Beyond the pear tree, to the northeast, was a shed for storing baled hay. East of the house was a chicken house, and beside it was a large locust tree. We have no pictures showing an overview of the house, and would encourage any family members who have some to share with us for inclusion in this album. The best we have are some family snapshots that show in part a few of the items described above. They are included in this album.
