Hood descendants attending the 2010 Ladd/Hood reunion
Elno Boyd Ladd died on 9 Jan 1918 in the flu epidemic. Mamie lived alone with her older children helping her maintain the farm. Will Hood's first wife Elizabeth died in early 1927, leaving four girls ages 9 years to 2 months. Will and Mamie married on 28 Mar 1928, and at that time Mamie had three children at home (Floyd, 15; Ruby, 13; and Nila, 11) and Will had four (Lola, 9; Opal, 5; Dorothy, 2; and Vera, 8 months). Thus, Dorothy and Nila lived together in the blended family until Nila married Loyd Haskin in 1940. The three younger Hood girls, Opal, Dorothy, and Vera were considered by the Ladd relatives as "family," and that was that.
