A note on the back of this old photograph says "Aunt Jane Haviland." That would refer to Hannah Jane Stillwell, daughter of Daniel and Beulah Ann Stillwell of Miame and Darke Counties, Ohio. Hannah was born 17 Jan 1839 in Ohio and died 27 Jan 1915 in Geneva, Adams County, Indiana. She married Christopher Haviland on 18 Aug 1861. They had six children. Hannah was a sister of William Henry Stillwell and an aunt of Harry Mote Stillwell. This portrait was created by Elijah V. Mote of Greenville, Ohio and Union City, Indiana. E. V. Mote married Amanda Hayes, half-sister of Phebe Ann Hiller, wife of William Henry Stillwell. This photo was found in a collection of photographs by E. V. Mote in the papers of Bonnie (Stillwell) Ladd. The studio identification was simply "Mote, Union City, Ind." Her birthplace of Ohio in 1839 and of Mary Ann in New Jersey, about 1837, gives an indication of when Daniel and Beulah Ann moved from New Jersey to Ohio. They apparently settled in Staunton Township, Miami County, Ohio near Elias Stillwell and his family. We do not yet know the relationship between Daniel and Elias.
