William Henry Stilwell

William Henry was the youngest surviving child of Daniel and Beulah Ann Stilwell. He was born 9 Feb 1846 in Troy, Staunton Township, Miami County, Ohio. He married first Phebe Ann Hiller on 14 Dec 1870. They had six children, with five surviving to adulthood. He later married Mary Elizabeth Sewart (often spelled Stewart) on 12 July 1888. They had two children, Lula and Odus. William Henry died on 16 Jan 1925 in Cushing, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Ohio Infantry during the Civil War, and served in the following battles, all in Virginia: Lynchburg, 6-18-1864; Winchester, 7-20-1864; Kernestown, 7-24-1864; Berryville, 9-3-1864; Opequan, 9-19-1864; Fishers Hill, 9-22-1864; Cedar Creek, 10-19-1864; and Beverley, 1-11-1865. In this battle he was captured by the Confederates and held in Libby Prison, Richmond, Virginia, until his release on 24 April 1865. (You will note mixed usage of the Stilwell and Stillwell spellings, similar to the mixtures among different family members. His preferred spelling appears to have been Stilwell.)
