Bonnie was the third child, and the first girl, of Harry and Lou (Smith) Stillwell. She often spoke of herself as being the oldest of seven girls. She worked as a weekday live-in maid for the Futeransky family, grocers in Cushing, Oklahoma, during high school. Within a year after graduation from high school, she and Forrest Earl Ladd were married by a Justice of the Peace in Chandler, Lincoln County, Oklahoma. They had three children, Forrest Earl Jr., Linda Lou, and Barbara Joan, each of whom have families of their own. Bonnie lived from 23 June 1906 to 3 April 2002.
