This photo of an unknown man was in a collection of Smith and Tate pictures held by Bonnie (Stillwell) Ladd. Bonnie wrote on the back that this is a member of the Tate family and a brother of "Grandma Smith" (Collie [Tate] Smith). That could have been, in birth order, Samuel, Lewis Franklin, Erwin, Henry Martin, Solomon Hillary, or John William Tate. The portrait was created by the Balding Studio of Wellington, Kansas.
