Obituary
ARCHIE ALVA LOCKMAN
Archie Alva Lockman was born in Winona, Missouri, May 17, 1901, and died August 20, 1963 at his home in Ford. He came to the Sawlog Community north of Dodge City to make his home with his grandparents after the death of his mother. He was married to Nellie Warner June 28, 1936 at Ford.
Mr. Lockman graduated from Dodge City High School and Emporia State Teachers College. Graduate work was done at William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri, and Nebraska Wesleyan of Lincoln, Nebraska, under the sponsorship of the National Science Foundation.
A career teacher for 33 years, he taught science in the Haskell County, Dodge City Junior High, Horton, Cimarron, Kinsley, Lakin, Ness City, and Ford school systems. In recognition of his teaching career casket bearers were chosen from boys who were in high school when he began his teaching in Ford. Fifteen of the 33 years were spent in the Ford School.
He was a member of the Ford Methodist Church and the St. Bernard Masonic Lodge, Dodge City.
Mr. Lockman is survived by the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Michael Francis [Deanna], College Station, Texas; Mrs. Gary Salyer [Carolyn], Garden City; three brothers, H. C. Lockman, Dodge City; C. M. Lockman, Hutchinson and Donald of Winona, Missouri; four sisters, Mrs. Edna Moore of Dodge City; Mrs. W. F. Hudson, Almena; Mrs. Paul Dowell, Dighton and Mrs. Clarence Wisecarver, Birchtree, Missouri.
