Wooten-Dawson

A surprise climax of the program at the Church of the Nazarene at Ford, Christmas eve, was the wedding of Miss Helen Wooten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Wooten of Ford, and the Rev. Harry Dawson of Centerview, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Dawson of Ford. Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Elmer Karns of Ford, aunt of the bridegroom, sang O Promise Me and I Love You Truly, accompanied by Miss Lou Dilla Whitney of Hutchinson. As the bridal party came to the altar, Miss Whitney played the Mendelssohn wedding march. During the ceremony which was read by the Rev. Donna Keyes, pastor of the church, Miss Whitney played Traumeri. The church was decorated appropriate to the season. An evergreen arch and garlands hung effectively above the altar. A picturesque garden setting was used in the pulpit while on the altar were candelabra with lighted tapers.

The bride wore a floor length white taffeta dress. Her finger-length veil was halo effect. She carried a bride's bouquet of pink roses, white sweet peas and baby breath. Miss Ila Wooten, sister of the bride, was the bridesmaid. She wore a lavender taffeta dress, floor length, and carried an arm bouquet of white carnations and baby’s breath. Mr. Harold Wooten, brother of the bride, was best man.

Both the Rev. and Mrs. Dawson were reared near Ford. Mrs. Dawson finished the Ford high school in 1935 and attended the junior college at Dodge City. She is well known for her musical accomplishments. Mr. Dawson also graduated from the Ford high school, class of 1932, and attended the Dodge City junior college. The marriage unites two of Ford county's pioneer families. The bride is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Worker of Ford and the bridegroom is the grandson of the late I. M. Dawson and Mrs. Dawson of Ford.

A wedding dinner was served Christmas day to the immediate families, the bridal party, Mr. and Mrs. Karns and daughters, Melva Jean and Colleen, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Worker and Mr. and Mrs. James Rink. It was also a wedding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Wooten and Mr. and Mrs. Rink. The bride and bridegroom left in the afternoon for a short wedding trip after which they will be at home in Centerview, where Mr. Dawson is pastor of the Methodist church.
