MR. AND MRS. JOHN KARNS CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
An enjoyable occasion was the Open House held Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr and Mrs. John M. Karns in celebration of their Golden Wedding Anniversary. John M. Karns and Anna M. Bussard were married October 22, 1903, at the little town of Clearville in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, and went to the bride's home where a wedding dinner was served.
Mr. Karns was a school teacher and in 1911 they came to Mullinville, Kans., where his parents had located. He finally decided to give up teaching for farming and in 1918 they bought the farm five and a half miles north of Bucklin where they have since resided, reared a family of six children, saw them all go away to college, then to distant homes of their own.
For the celebration Sunday, 112 relatives and friends came to extend felicitations to Mr. and Mrs. Karns on the happy occasion of their golden anniversary.
For refreshments the table was attractively centered with a three tiered wedding cake, flowers and lighted tapers at either end. Cake, coffee, mints and nuts were served with Mrs. Melvin Karns, Princeton, N. J., Mrs. Wayne Smith, Copeland; Mrs. Charles Stwalley, Hutchinson; Mrs. Russell Walters, Mullinville and Mrs. Perry Staats, presiding at the table. Miss Janice Braun, a grand-daughter, was in charge of the guest book.
A profusion of golden and bronze mums and other flowers and a number of nice gifts had been presented, and from the family Mr. and Mrs. Karns received a TV set which was installed by their son, Melvin.
Their children present were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin E. Karns, Princeton, N. J.; Carl S. Karns, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. William J. Braun, Janice and Elvin, Monte Vista, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Alden Loomis, Kinsley. Those who could not be present are Elbert Karns, Arlington, Va.; and Mrs. Robert Scott, The Dalles, Ore. They have six grandchildren, and Janice and Elvin Braun were present.
Others from a distance at the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Bussard, Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stwalley, Hutchinson; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Smith, Copeland; Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Young, Arlene Sutton and family, Dodge City; Arthur Karns, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Karns, Pratt; Mrs. M. Hinkley, Rev. John Ball and Dorothy, Mrs. Edith Wilson, Mrs. Edna Clauson, Mrs. M. A.
