Services Held For Scott Jay
Funeral rites for Scott Jay were held Sunday, at 3 p.m. May 28 at the Methodist Church in Bucklin with Rev. E. J. Vaughan officiating. Burial was in the Bucklin Cemetery.
"Abide With Me," "Old Rugged Cross" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord" were sung by Paul Manning, Merle Darst, Roy Weikal and Bill Morrow, accompanied by Mrs. E. A. Stephenson at the organ.
Casket bearers were the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Jay: Merle, Fred, Clifford, Roy, Clarence and Albert. Honorary casketbearers were Mr. and Mrs. Will Liles, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Berger, Mr. and Mrs. Noble Seacat, Mr. and Mrs. O. O. Fields, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Dewell and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoffman,
Obituary
Scott Jay, son of Thomas and Amy Smith Jay was born April 17, 1887 in Mann Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
He was united in marriage to Bessie Belle Karns, December 26, 1905 at Clearville, Pennsylvania. They resided here for eight years. In the fall of 1913 they moved to Ford County, Kansas, where they resided until his death in the Fowler County hospital May 25, 1961, at the age of 74 years, one month and 8 days.
To this union were born ten children. Surviving, besides Mrs. Jay of the home, six sons and four daughters: E. Merle, Fred W., Clifford C., and Roy H., all of Leoti, Kansas; Clarence S., Long Beach, California; Albert E., Orange, California; Miss Osa E., Washington, D. C.; Mrs. (Gordon) Hazel Ramsey, Seibert, Colorado; Mrs. (M. J.) Fern Eves, Garden City, Kansas; Mrs. (Art) Wandalee Ratzlaff, Minneola, Kansas; twenty-one grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two brothers: Sherman and Russell of Clearfield, Pennsylvania; one sister: Mrs. Angeline Smith of Artemis, Pennsylvania and a host of friends and relatives.
Mr. Jay was preceded in death by his father, mother, four brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
Mr. Jay was united with the First Methodist Church of Ford in 1923 and at a later date transferred his membership to the First Methodist Church in Bucklin where he remained an active member until illness prevented his attendance.
