Elected RCA V-President

 

Melvin E. Karns has been elected vice-president, licensing, at Radio Corporation of America by the board of directors. He has served as division vice-president, license operations, of the international division from 1960.

 

In this newly established position, Mr. Karns will have overall responsibility for corporate licensing matters. He will have direct responsibility for domestic licensing and functional responsibility for foreign licensing.

 

Mr. Karns holds a BS degree in electrical engineering from Kansas State College, and a LL.B. from Rutgers University. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers, and a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.

 

After joining RCA in 1929 as a radio engineer, Mr. Karns became manager of foreign license technical service in 1934. He was director of the War Production Board's radio and radar division during World War II.

 

In 1945, he was named assistant to the vice-president of RCA Laboratories in Princeton, and in 1955 assumed the directorship of license operations of RCA International Division.

 

He is President and a Director of Laboratories RCA, Ltd., in Zurich, Switzerland; Laboratories RCA, Inc., which has a branch in Tokyo, and American Electronic Enterprises, Ltd., Tokyo.

 

Melvin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Karns. He graduated from Bucklin High School.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin E. Karns reside at 672 Prospect Avenue, Princeton, New Jersey.
