Ladd Heads Association of Christian Psychologists

Dr. Forrest E. Ladd, chairman of the division of social and behavioral sciences at BNC, has been elected president of the Oklahoma City chapter of the American Association of Christians in the Behavioral Sciences (AACBS).

According to Dr. Ladd, the next meeting of the organization, a church and community service endeavor, will be held Saturday, November 6, at 12:30 p.m. for a luncheon at the Lady Classen Cafeteria on north May Avenue. Dr. Logan Wright, a pediatric psychologist from the University of Oklahoma Medical Center, will be speaking on the topic, "The Two-Thousand Year Revelation Gap." Harlan Moore of BNC will be providing musical entertainment. The meeting will be open to all students interested in attending.

The AACBS is a national organization interested in the application of the teachings of Jesus Christ to the problems of the classroom, clinic, experimental laboratory, and the community. Their work includes the sponsoring of distributing narcotics education materials, holding Christian life seminars, and maintaining a speakers bureau. Members of the organization include psychologists, sociologists, psychiatrists, educators, and ministerial counselors.

Commenting on the purpose of the group, Dr. Ladd said, "Whether in the clinic, the Christian training class, the service agency, or the classroom, the aims always include respect for the individual, the development of human capacities, and the amelioration of conflicts." Speaking further concerning the value of such an organization, Dr. Ladd observed, "In a time when there is much talk of a post-Christian era and a general denigration of such values as individuality and self-determination, the combined impact of those who are skilled in the behavioral sciences and committed to Christian values is greatly needed."

Dr. C. M. Whipple, assistant professor of psychology at Central State University, has been chosen executive director of the Oklahoma City chapter. Dr. Tom Yarbrough, counseling and testing director at Oklahoma Baptist University, is social concern chairman. Dr. Edgar Petty, associate professor of education at Central State University is vice president and program chairman. Dr. Robert Sanders, district director of the American College Testing Program, is chairman of the membership committee.
