Karns-Ladd Wedding In Ford Church

Miss Melva Jean Karns, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer M. Karns of Ford, and Forrest E Ladd, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest E. Ladd, Sr., of Tulsa, Okla., were married Sunday afternoon in the Church of the Nazarene at Ford. The Rev. George M. Lake of Garden City, assisted by the Rev. O. A. McGuire, read the marriage vows, before a background of lighted tapers, baskets of garden flowers and a flower covered trellis.

Preceding the ceremony, recordings of marimba music were played. The recordings had been made by the bride, accompanied by her sister. Miss Sara Jean Riley, cousin of the bride, played the traditional wedding marches and accompanied the vocalists. Miss Ellene Brink played "To A Wild Rose" and "Traumerei" on the vibraharp while the tapers were lighted and during the ceremony. Ernest Walden of Kingman, Kas., sang "I Love You Truly” and "Because." Mrs. Helen Dawson, cousin of the bride, sang "Together Life's Pathway We Tread."

Miss Marilee Snook and Miss Deanna Lockman, cousins of the bride, lighted the tapers. They were dressed in pale blue taffeta and wore wristlets of daisies.

Miss Colleen Karns, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor and Miss Mary Louise Trager of Little Rock, Ark., was the bridesmaid. Miss Karns wore lilac marquisette and Miss Trager wore spring green marquisette. The dresses were fashioned alike with gathered skirts and scalloped berthas. They wore matching mitts and headdresses of net. Each attendant carried a bouquet of lilies and garden flowers. William R. Smith of Wichita was the best man and the groomsman was Ernest Walden of Kingman, Kas. Miss Linda Ladd, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Carolyn Kay Karns of Pratt, cousin of the bride, were the flower girls. They were dressed in yellow marquisette and carried small baskets filled with rose petals and hair ribbons accented with daisies.

The ushers were Marvin Snowbarger and Roger McGuire. Miss Bethene Karns of Topeka, cousin of the bride, was in charge of the guest book. Mrs. Karns and Mrs. Ladd, mothers of the bride and bridegroom, were dressed in navy blue and each wore a corsage of pink rosebuds.

The bride was dressed in ivory slipper satin fashioned with a train and featuring collar and hip accent of wide lace. Her veil of imported bridal illusion was held in place by satin braid studded with orange blossoms. She carried a white Bible topped with gladioli blossoms and rose buds knotted in streamers.

A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. Mrs. W. P. Warner, aunt of the bride, was in charge. Mrs. Elmer Dawson and Mrs. Archie Lockman, assisted by other relatives, served at the refreshment table, which was centered with a three-tiered wedding cake. A yellow and white color scheme was carried out in the decorations and refreshments.

Mr. and Mrs. Ladd then left for a wedding trip to Colorado. For traveling the bride wore a light blue floral mesh dress with navy accessories and a corsage of gladioli and roses.

Mrs. Ladd is a graduate of the Ford schools and Bethany-Peniel College at Bethany, Okla. She has also attended the University of Wichita. Mr. Ladd graduated from Bethany-Peniel College in 1948, attended the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, and received his master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma this spring.

Mr. and Mrs. Ladd will make their home in Miltonvale, Kas., where they will both teach in the Wesleyan Methodist academy and college.
