Karns-Pate Wedding Vows Exchanged in Pratt, Kansas

Nuptial vows were solemnized at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 7, for Miss Carolyn Kay Karns, Pratt, Kansas and Garry Dean Pate, Hot Springs, Arkansas. Dr. Forrest E. Ladd, Oklahoma City, read the vows for the couple in the First United Methodist Church, Pratt.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn E. Karns, Pratt, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Pate, Hot Springs.

The chancel of the church was decorated with urns of pink roses and white majestic daisies, and brass candelabra decorated with pink roses and white daisies. Wedding music was provided by Mrs. Harold Emrich, Bethany, cousin of the bride, and Professor Lester L. Dunn, Bethany, vocal ists; and Susie Palmer, Independence, Kansas, organist.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of silk organza over bridal taffeta. The shift style gown was fashioned with a bodice and bell sleeves of Venise lace, with a scooped neck and the bodice accented with pearls and sequins. Back fullness of the gown extended into a flowing chapel train. Lace flowers were appliqued on the gown and train, and completely encircled the skirt and train hem. The long veil of illusion was held with a headpiece of pearled Venise lace and bouffant illusion. She carried a nosegay of pink sweetheart roses, baby's breath, and white marguerite daisies.

Maid of honor was Mrs. Larry Wright, Bethany. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Patrick Moore, Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Gary Turner, Hays, Kansas; Miss Lois Wood, Trousdale, Kansas; Miss Carolyn Wilcox, Pratt, and Miss Susan Newman, Oklahoma City. The attendants were dressed identically in formal Empire style gown of pink linen with bodices and long sleeves of white lace. They were trimmed with a belt and bow of moss green satin. Head-pieces were Dior bows of moss green satin and illusion. Each carried a white lace fan with pink and white marguerite daisies and accents of moss green.

Flower girl was Karen Pate, Hot Springs, sister of the groom. She wore a long dress of pink lace, trimmed with a sash of moss green. She carried a white basket of pink and white marguerite daisies. Best man was Larry Wright, Bethany. Groomsmen were Dennis Karns, Pratt, brother of the bride; Paul Davis, Stephen Heap, Stan Aubrey, and Ken Murray, all of Bethany.

The mothers of the bride and groom wore corsages of white sweetheart roses, and each mother was presented with a rose by the bride.

The reception was held in the fellowship hall immediately following the wedding ceremony. The table was covered with a white skirted cloth of satin and lace. The tiered cake was decorated with pink roses and topped with a fresh flower nosegay of pink roses and white daisies. The floral arrangement for the table was of pink carnations and white daisies in a brass candelabra setting. Assistants for the reception were Miss Bethene Karns, Topeka, Kansas, aunt of the bride; Miss Connie Davis, Ava, Missouri; Miss Margaret Walsh, Abilene, Texas; Mrs. Dan Baker, Kansas City, Mo., Miss Carol Dockum, Wichita, Kansas, and Mrs. Mike McFall and Miss Janean Meigs, both of Pratt.

Assisting with the gifts were Miss Jolene Johnson, Pratt, and Miss Gwen Ladd, Oklahoma City, cousin of the bride. Miss Susie Palmer played dinner music on the piano for the reception. Linda Eudaley of Springfield, Missouri, was in charge of the guest book.

For the wedding trip the bride selected a two-piece white knit belted dress with pink accessories. The corsage was lifted from the bridal bouquet. The couple will be at home at 4208 1/2 N. Donald, Bethany, following a short honeymoon trip to Kansas City. The groom will pursue his Master's Degree in religion and the bride will teach vocal music in the public schools. The bride is a graduate of Pratt High School and the groom is a graduate of Hot Springs High School. Both are graduates of Bethany Nazarene College.
