Renewal of Vows Highlights:

Fred Seegers' Golden Wedding (News article from Aug 5,1951 Sorento IIl, Paper. )

Mr and Mrs Fred C. Seeger celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday July 29, with a renewal of their wedding vows. This second single ring ceremony was performed at the Methodist church by the reverend George Hudson of Mulberry Grove, before an altar decorated with fans and flowers. Over 300 friends and relatives were present. Yellow candles in the candlabra were lighted before the ceremony by Charles Seeger and Sharyn Kay Seeger, grandchildren of the couple.

Mrs Seeger was given in marriage by her brother- in- law William Cruthis of Gillespie. She wore a formal gown of gold print sheer, with a gold-colored off the face veil of net, secured by a tiara of blossoms with yellow centers. She carried a bouquet of yellow carnations and roses.

The attandants at the original wedding again served the bride and groom. They were Mrs. Cora Rea, of Pocahontas, sister of the bride, and Lem McGibany cousin of the bride. Mrs Rea wore an orchid and yellow print sheer over orchid satin, and carried a bouquet similar to the bride.

Others in the bridal procession were Linda and Susie Seeger as flower girls and Gary Seeger as ring bearer. The little girls were dressed in yellow formals with headress of yellow flowers. Master Gary wore a yellow satin coat with brown trousers.

Serving as ushers were three grandaughters, Miss Ruth Seeger, Miss Joan Schweppe (New Douglas) and Miss June Gill (Mt. Olive). Another granddaughter Mrs Verne Brines, and husband, of (Mt. 0live) served as registrars.

Preceding the ceremony was a short program. Mrs Seeger's favorite hymn "All the way my Savior Leads me," was sung by the REV. AI Oberts of St Louis, pastor of the New Douglas Baptist church. Miss Nadine Wall was pianist thoughout the program and ceremony.

A tribute was paid to the couple by Mrs John Wall. "Beyond The Sunset" was sung by Mr Oberts and Joan Schweppe, followed by a reading by Mrs. William Cruthis of Gillespie. A reading "MOTHER" was given by Majorie Burns; a song "It Is No Secret What God Can Do" was offered by Joyce Bettendorf and Ruth Ann Hamett, followed by a song "Mother" by Mr Oberts and June Gill. Mrs Cruthis recited "Fifty Years Ago' before the ceremony.

A reception was given at the School Gymnasium for 300 guest. A beautiful three-tiered wedding cake centered the bridal table over which hung a gold 50 bearing the names Fred and Minnie. The room was appropriately decorated with gold crepe paper and a profusion of yellow flowers. Refreshments of ice cream and cake and orangeade were served.

The Seeger's who were married July 31, 1901 have six children all of whom were present. All of their 15 Grandchildren were present except one. There where four guests present at the Golden wedding celebration who where present at the orginal wedding. They were the attendants Mrs John (Cora) Rea and Lem McGilbany, Mrs Gertrude Langel (of Pocahontas), and Evan Green.
