The Principal Peters
by Rev. Norman L. Gindlesperger

The number of "Peter Gindlespergers" who were living in Somerset County, PA, during the third quarter of the 19th century can be a bit confusing, especially when one looks at a Federal Census. There were two Peters who were Heads of Households during the 1860 and 1870 censuses. Three were Heads of Households in 1850. Two were married to women whose first name was Rachel. Two were married to women whose surname was Blough (one actually Blauch).

In all there are a total of eight Peter Gindlespergers in the database I am using. What follows is a kind of "reader's guide" to the several Peter Gindlespergers.
