From Julie Matthews Burnette:
I was recently shopping on e-bay when I decided to what would come up if I typed "Gindlesperger" in the search box. I couldn't believe my eyes when
I found an entry for Sherman Gindlesperger's World War II Good Conduct Medal. I placed a bid immediately and felt sure I would win the auction, which was going to be over the next morning.
I woke up the next day expecting to win... but I had lost! I wanted very much to return the medal to our family. Thus, I wrote to the man who had
won the auction, explained that I was Sherman's cousin, and asked if I could buy the medal from him so it could be returned to the family.
He very graciously offered to have the original owner (an antique shop in New Hampshire) sell the medal to me for the price he had won the auction.
I received the medal a couple of weeks ago and wanted to share it with the rest of our family.
According to Brian Ensley's The Descendants of Ulrich Gindlesperger, Sherman J. Gindlesperger, Jr. was born July 29, 1926 and died May 28,
1985. As far as I know, he was never married. There is one short, interesting biographical note:
"Sherman was a veteran of WWII and was a third-generation contractor, building many area homes, businesses, and churches. He was well known for his homemade circus display."
Sherman's parents were Sherman Gindlesperger, Sr. and Ruth Olive Christner, and he had two sisters, Dorothy Louise, who married William Henry Shaver
in Westmoreland County, PA, and Deanna June, who married Frederick Martin Tipton.
