Notes on this document from Rev. Norman L. Gindlesperger, transcriber
- The word "Chattles" and "appraisors" as well as the abbreviations "Deced" for deceased and "Feby" are spelled as they appear in the document.
- "Houshold," "houhold," and "houshold" in lines 2, 3, and 5, respectively, are spelled as they are in the
manuscript.
- With a shade of uncertainty because of the manuscript, "jug" in line 5 is my best judgement.
- In line 7, in "Chifsels" I used the "f" to indicate the archaic 18th century manuscript style for the first of a double
"ss."
- In line 13 "plain" should be spelled "p-l-a-n-e," the carpenter's tool.
- In line 15 "Stilliards," Funk and Wagnell states "today `steelyards´" and defines it as "a simple device for weighing, consisting of
a scale beam supported near one end..."
- In line 20, the "...one pair of Woll (sic, Wool) Cards" are two boards with handles that have nail-like teeth on one side, similar to a flat
wire brush. When fleece is taken off a sheep, it must first be carded, or combed, to clean, untangle, and arrange the fibers for spinning. A similar, but more brushlike, instrument is used to curry cattle and
horses. Clarification courtesy of Galen Miller.
- Line 26, according to Webster a "wether" is "a castrated ram."
- Line 29, "Clevifces" (sic, Clevises (pl.)). The clevis is part of the rigging and harness used to hitch a horse to a plow. According
to Webster, "A devise, usually a U-shaped piece of metal with the ends perforated to receive a pin, used on the end of the tongue of a wagon [plow], etc., to attach it to a draft chain, whiffletree (singletree),
etc. Clarification courtesy of Galen Miller.
- The italicization indicates the original signature of Christian Müller (Miller).
