Story # 14
Three sons (Joseph, Robert and Henry Jr.) of Henry Gore and Ann Catherine Keller were Revolutionary War soldiers. These ludicrous claims can be found in the following references: During the General Assembly, of Virginia in the years of 1827-1828, a grant of land was made by this body to Joseph Gore in recognition of his service in the Revolutionary War, formerly mentioned as coming to the Guyandotte Valley in 1803 (The Genealogy of the Gore Family by George T. Swain, page 10). Among the early settlers of what is now known as the Pipestem District were the Farleys, Cooks, Robert and Henry Gore etc. They were all hunters and Indian fighters. These old pioneers were soldiers of the Revolution (Gore, Goare, Goar and Kindred by Joseph Elmer Goar, page 295). The American Revolution ended on 19 October `1781 at the battle of Yorktown in which Lord Cornwallis was soundly defeated by combined forces of the American and French military and naval forces. Joseph was born 1780, Robert in 1783, and Henry Jr. in 1789. (copyright 1993-1997 The Gore Family Newsletter / James L. Gore)
