RESEARCHING SHIP PASSENGER LISTS

By Ted Gose

Ship's Passenger Lists are valuable sources for documenting the arrival dates and locations of our ancestors - if we can find them. Alphabetical indexes listing the names of those appearing on ships' lists can be searched to locate the name of the ancestor in question. These indexes are published in various and numerous new and old publications which may provide you with references which may in turn identify yet other references in which you may find the list for which you are searching.. or perhaps only more clues ...which may ultimately lead you to finding such a list.

Today we are fortunate because more and more information is becoming available on the Internet or computerized data bases that can speed our searches.

However, one must keep in mind that not all of the passengers who were on the ships are necessarily listed on the "official" Ships' Lists. To learn more about Ships' Lists and how to find them, check out the links below. There is also a link to the specific Ship List containing the name of the 1752 immigrant, Stephan Gose.
