Fought at the Battle of Point Pleasant under Brig. General Andrew Lewis, his brother in law. William served as Lieutenant of VA Militia. He served in the American Revolution under General George Rogers Clark and marched with the Highland County Volunteers to help General Green in NC in 1781. His grave marker, Upper Cleek Cemetery/Bath County,VA, lists him as a member of the 5th Pennsylvania Militia, Revolutionary War. He also signed the petition to form Bath County in 1779.
