Kiron Kountry's Family Farms

Family Farms in Otter Creek and Stockholm townships

This satellite photo was taken 19941011. In many places the rectangular outlines of the original farms purchased in the summer of 1867 are still visable. Carl Star bought 80 acres in Otter Creek section 13 SE and right south of him was the 80 acres selected by Elias Mönsson. Across the road east in Stockholm section 18 SW was the 160 acres chosen by Nils Rodin. The other member of that original trip was Carl Frodig who liked the 80 acres in the S/2 SE of Stockholm section 19. Of course, in 1867 the township names of Otter Creek and Stockholm didn't exist. This 4 by 18 mile NE corner of Crawford county was referred to as Jackson township.

One month after these gentlemen made their transactions, they brought a number of their fellow Swedish countrymen who were mostly 'bunched-up' in the Swedebend area, to this area and they in turn signed land contracts with the Providence Western Land Company for farms from 40 acres to 160 acres.
