Carl Gustafson owned a Red River Special 28 inch threshing machine.
They powered it by belt from a John Deere D tractor. This scene
from the 30's show a couple of bundle racks which are being unloaded
by the bundle pitchers, the horse drawn high spoke-wheel grain
wagon, and the 1925 Chevy truck. Operating the tractor was Ernest
Gustafson while his younger brother Vernal oversaw the thresher
operation. In the late 40's, the Chevrolet Motor Car Company
had a national search for the oldest Chevy truck that was still
in active use. This truck came in 3rd place when a couple of
1924 models were found - the oldest being on a ranch in Montana.
It was always exciting fun when Vernal would let us ride in the
truck with him. |
