Axel Fredrik Nikolas Lundberg - abt 1915

Born in Gibberyd in Rumskulla parish in Sweden, Axel was about 72 years old when this picture was taken. He had earned the reputation as a God-fearing man with a 'can-do' attitude. Here is a man who worked very hard for every thing he received in life. Yet, his record is one of generosity - to his in-laws, to his siblings, to his children, to his community, and especially to his church. Some may not have liked his outspokenness while others admire him for being honest, direct and straightforward. This picture was taken when he was backing Rev. Irwin Johnson in getting a new building for the Evangelical Free Church of Kiron, Iowa.

For those with an interest in children's literature, yes, Gibberyd is one of the locations used by Astrid Eriksson Lindgren as a setting for movies of her childrens stories. Astrid is a seventh cousin once removed of Mrs. Lundberg.
