Walter Adolph Salmonson was born on the Wheeler township farm on 15 December 1896. He lived his entire life in this area of Sac county. On 1 January 1934 he was married to Ruth Schrooten in Storm Lake, Iowa. They raised two children - Ronald and Janice. Walter died on 8 September 1996 and is buried in the cemetery at Odebolt, Iowa.

The Salmonsons attended the Lutheran church where the children attended confirmation classes. This is a picture of Walter taken to celebrate his confirmation in 1912 when J. A. Christenson was pastor. Esther was confirmed 2 years later in 1914.
