Rev. Sigesmund Gustaf
Arvid Lagerquist (1871-1941)
Arvid Svantesson Lagerquist was
born in Eskilstuna, Sweden. He emigrated in May 1890 to Chicago
where he enrolled in the Morgan Park Seminary. He served churches
in Illinois and Kansas before coming to Kiron in October 1907.
It was under his leadership that the Kiron Baptist Church built
its 2nd facility in 1908. Another one his achievements was in
leading the local election voting campaign against alcohol sales
in the town which gave Kiron its unique status of being the only
"dry" town in the county years before the prohibition
era. Rev. Lagerquist went on to pastorates in Omaha and various
places in Iowa. He died in Des Moines in 1941.
