In 1868, Carl Fredrik Clauson emigrated with his wife Helena and sons Alvin and Alfred from Västrum Sweden to America. They purchased land from the railroad in Stockholm section 29 and farmed here for their entire lifetime. They were here before there even was a school building. Son Alvin died upon arrival but son Alfred survived and grew to manhood working on his father's farm. Alfred married Lottie and they raised a family of five daughters. For most of these years Carl or Alfred served as the local school director. Perhaps that is the reason that this school is known as the Clauson school. At different times, the Clauson daughters served as teacher. About the 1919 time frame, the daughter of the Methodist minister, Miss Dorothy Green was teacher. She later married one of the grandsons of Carl Fredrik giving another Clauson connection. In February 1927, Miss Mable Clauson, a grand daughter of Carl Fredrik taught here for a short term. Charles Schurke was director. Around 1948 Miss Lila Clauson, a great grand daughter of Carl Fredrik would become the last of the Clauson connection to this school. Louis Schurke was director. The pictures of life in the Stockholm #9 district in the 1918-20 time period when one of the teachers was Miss Dorothy Green have been supplied by her grand daughter Brenda Paulson Brubaker. Please let us know if you recognize any of the people or scenes or farm homes in these pictures.
