Notice in the 5 July 1956 Ida Grove paper:
3 November 1861 - 25 June 1956

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon 27 June 1956 at two o’clock at the Arthur Baptist church with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Mrs. Oscar Olson was the organist with Dennis Lindberg singing "Just the Same" and "Beyond the Sunset". Pall bearers were Dick Carstensen, Marion Linman, Ronald Steuk, Burnelle Linman, Elden Belstene and Carl Sonichsen. Interment was at the hayes Township cemetery.

Gust Belstene was born 3 November 1861 in the parish of Oderljunga, province of Skane, Sweden the son of Hanna and nils Broddesson. It was on 5 April 1882 that he arrived in Odebolt and he maintained residence in the community for the past 74 years. Baptized in 1884, he became a charter member of the Arthur Baptist church when it was organized in October of 1885. He was the last surviving charter member of the church. In addition to an active support of the church, he was also one of the key figures in the organization of the Sunday school.

On 2 October 1889, he was united in marriage to Anna Sonichsen to which union three children were born: Ethel, Earl and Lester. A landowner in the community, he was always interested and active in community affairs and served as trustee and also a member of the school board. He died June 25, 1956 in the Ida Grove hospital at the age of 94 years, 7 months and 22 days. He is survived by the three children, Mrs. Roy Linman, Earl Belstene and Lester Belstene. He was preceded in death by his wife who died on January 24, 1933.

Other survivors include seven grandchildren, eight great-grand-children, and numerous nieces and nephews. The grandchildren are Mrs. Jules Carstensen of Odebolt, Burnelle Linman and Marion Linman of Arthur, Mrs. Ronald Steuk of Ida Grove and Elden, LaVon and Larry Belstene of Arthur.
