Johnson,Carl Magnus Obituary --- (1846 - 24 Dec 1937) -- Kiron, Iowa
Carl Magnus Johnson was born February 5, 1846, in Klasentorp, Slatthog Socken, Kronobergs Lan, Smoland, Sweden, and died Dec 24, 1937, at the age of 91 years, 10 months, and 19 days. In May 1867, at the age of 21, he came to the United States where he was united in marriage to Helena Johnson and settled in DeKalb, Ill, and in 1875 moved to Crawford County, Iowa.
Seven children were born to them , four of whom, together with his faithful wife, preceeded him in death. Sally died in infancy, John and Arthur met instant death by lightning, and one sister Olive. Three Children survive to mourn his passing. Emily, Helen and Oscar besides 3 grand children, six great grandchildren and his many friends.
Mr. Johnson loved life to its fullest extent. He loved his home and all growing things. He was a pioneer of the true type. It is said of him that he always believed in an hones deal, ready to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate, and always interested in the welfare and upbuilding of the community.
Until the last year Mr. Johnson enjoyed exceptional good health. In October this year, however, he began to fail noticeably and from then on he failed rapidly. On the evening of Dec. 15th he was taken seriously ill and grew weaker until at 9:45 Friday morning, Dec. 24th he passed peacefully away.
Mr. Johnson was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church all through his long life. He loved his church, and during his declining years, made every effort to be present in his pew on Sunday mornings. Only a few days before his final illness, he was concerned about his inability to attend worship. Mr. Johnson is the last Charter Member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. He has been a member of our Church since 1906. As a congregation we extend our deepest sympathy to the bereaved children.
