Hulda Cecelia Johnson Carlson - (1887 - 1973)


Hulda Cecelia Johnson, daughter of Edward and Sophia Johnson, was born in Omaha, Nebraska,, 15 November 1887. She moved with her family as a small child to Ida County where she received her education. Later they moved back to Omaha. In 1906 she moved back to Ida County and on 11 December 1906, she married Gustaf Albert Carlson. They farmed south of Ida Grove except for two years when they lived in Minnesota. They retired to town in September 1947.

Hulda attended the Evangelical Free Church in Arthur and was an honorary member of the Women’s Missionary Society and a faithful attendant of the Dorcas.

She passed away at the Horn Memorial Hospital on 6 October 1973 after a short illness. She was 85 years, 10 months and 21 days old.

Funeral services were held Tuesday 9 October 1973 at the Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Robert Lundberg officiating. Helen McGee was the organist and accompained James Linman and Allen Tunberg as they sang. Burial was in the Hayes Township Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Chester Hurd, Paul Lindgren, Howard Rohlf, Elmer Eng, Lloyd Sacquety and Burdette Clouse.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Russel; her parents, Edward and Sophia Johnson; one brother, Albin Johnson; 2 sisters, Elenor and Helen, and a son-in-law; Rolla Thrailkill.

Survivors include 2 daughters Mrs. Gladys Thrailkill and Mrs. Albert (Mae) Wunschel; one son; Guy; a son-in-law, Albert Wunschel; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Carlson; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Paul Johnson of Garden Grove, California; 2 sisters, Mrs. mabel Petersen of Stockton, California, and Miss Myrtle Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska.
