Pioneer Resident of Stockholm Township Dies Sunday Morning

Joseph Johnson, pioneer resident of Stockholm Township, died at the Spencer Municipal hospital Sunday morning, May 29, 1949. He reached the age of 83 years, 5 months and 7 days.
Mr. Johnson was born December 22, 1865 in New Vasa, Minnesota, but he spent most of his life in Stockholm Township where he farmed until he retired in 1932.
Six years ago, due to failing health, he made his home with a nephew, Wallace Anderson, in Dunlap, Iowa and also with Elmer Lingren at Emmettsburg, Iowa. Last year, he made his home at the Delaney Rest Home at Spencer. A week before his death he was taken to the Spencer hospital.
Joseph Johnson was one of a family of twelve children, all who have preceeded him in death except on sister, Mrs. Amy Engelking, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He leaves to mourn his death many neices, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at Bartchers chapel in Denison, Wednesday afternoon, June 1, 1949, Rev. Orville Johnson of the Kiron Baptist church was in charge of the service.
