Myrtle Augusta Johnson --  (1908 - 1935)

Graduate of 1929 Dies at Arthur

Myrtle Augusta Johnson was born near Deloit, Iowa, 17 August 1908. She passed away at her home near Arthur, 22 May 1935, at the age of 26 years, 9 months and 5 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bethel Lutheran church of which she remained a faithful member until her death. She attended Sunday school and services as long as her health permitted. When she was 4 years of age, she was stricken with infantile paralysis from which she never fully recovered, but through her illness and suffering she bravely bore her pain alone, never complaining of her lot. The cause of her death was heart ailment. The end came as a relief from much pain and suffering.

She attended the rural schools in Crawford and Ida counties. She graduated from the Krion High school with the class of 1929. She also attended the American college in Omaha for two years. She resided with the family on a farm northwest of Kiron for ten years, about two years ago moving to a farm close to Arthur.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her father, Harold Johnson, one sister, Mrs. Gunner Johnson, two brothers, Clarence of Galva and Carl at home. The family and friends were very considerate and kind to her due to her physical condition. Besides the family she leaves two nieces and two nephews, aunts and uncles and many other relatives and friends. Her mother preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held from the home at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon and at 2:00 o'clock from the Bethel Lutheran church, Rev. Johnson of Cherokee officiating, assisted by Rev. Dagner. Mrs. E. N. Sandstrom and daughters, Maydelle and Virginia sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Nearer My God to Thee" . Mrs. M. A. Sandstrom accompanied at the piano. The pall bearers were her six cousins, Russell and Clifford Wood, Arthur and Everett Johnson, Earl Johnson and LeRoy Johnson. She was laid to rest in the Odebolt cemetery.
