Johan Peter Larson - (18 Jan 1871 - 20 Dec 1933)
Kiron, Dec 26 --- The following obituary of J. P. Larson, a former Kiron Resident, was taken from the Hawarden Chronicle:
J. P. Larson, a resident of Union county, S. D. , passed away at the Hawarden hospital Wednesday morning, December 20. He had submitted to an operation last week and was recovering nicely until Saturday when he began suffering hemorrhages and from that time of grew gradually weaker until his death.
He was born at Kalmar Lan, Sweden 18 Jan 1871. He came to the United States when about ten years of age and settled at Kiron with his parents. Later they moved to Union county and lived on several farms and then moved to this vicinity of 14 Feb 1911, which has since been his home.
He was married to Miss Anna Idella Beck on March 15, 1893, and to this union nine children were born. One son, Elmer, died in 1923. The children who survive to mourn his death, beside his widow, are Clarence, Glenn and Rolland of Alcester, Orrin and Lloyd of Hawarden, Mrs. Eunice Rossback of Akron, Mrs. Gladys Kramms of Chicago and Lowell at home; also several grandchildren. He is also survived by four brothers. E. S. Larson, C. O. Larson and Alfred Larson of Sioux City and O. J. Larson of Kiron, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hedstrom and Mrs. Minnie Larson of Kiron.
Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon from the home and from the Big Springs Baptist church at 2 o'clock, with Rev. B. L. Carlton in charge. Interment was made at Big Springs.
