Veda Margaret Linden Larson - (1921 - 2003)
Veda Margaret Linden was born on a farm north of Kiron, Iowa 21 November 1921, the daughter of Thure and Daisy Smothers Linden. She was raised on the farm and received her education in the rural schools before being graduated from the Odebolt High School. While in high school she received her teaching credentials with the Normal Training Course and taught in the area rural schools following her graduation. In 1939 she served as a governess for a family in Chicago for one year before returning to Kiron.
On 2 March 1941, Margaret was united in marriage with Ray Carl Larson. Their union was blessed with three children, James, Avis and Ross. They made their home in Kiron for a short time before Ray was recalled into the service and Margaret made her home with his parents. Upon Ray's discharge they lived and farmed the Larson family farm north and west of Deloit until retiring.
Ray died 19 November 1993 and shortly following his death Margaret moved to Denison. After moving to Denison she enjoyed spending the winter months with her daughter and son-in-law Avis and Richard Goldy, in Sugarland, Texas, moving there to live in November of 2001. Margaret loved her family deeply and especially enjoyed spending time with here grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her spare time through the years she enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, cooking and baking, reading and working crossword puzzles. She was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron when her health permitted where, in previous years, she was Sunday School Superintendent and a member of the Women of the E.L.C.A. In addition to her church membership she was a 70 year member of the Kiron American Legion Post 383 Ladies Auxiliary.
Margaret died late Monday 26 May 2003 at Methodist Diagnostic Hospital in Houston, Texas. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 81 years, 6 months and 5 days. Including her parents and her husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Linden and her sister, Dorothy Linden Todt. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her three children and their spouses, James and Peggy Larson of Flint, Texas, Avis and Richard Goldy of Sugar Land, Texas and Ross and Kate Larson of Urbandale, Iowa, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron, Iowa on Saturday 31 May 2003 with the Rev. Trish Underberg in charge. Margaret Ann Buller was at the organ for the congregation singing of two hymns. The Kiron American Legion Post 383 Ladies Auxilliary were present as an Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers were Carroll Skarin, Vernet Soenksen, Ronnie Jenkins, and Dean Gray. The pallbearers were Wayne Baker, Dale Jenkins, Glen Barngrover, Matt Larson, Charles Hawley, and Frank Hawley. Interment was at the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery of Kiron, Iowa.
