Swan Linquist's Death - (1850 - 1909)
In the death of Swan Linquist at his home in Hayes township on Friday 2 July 1909, Ida County lost one of her best known most prominent and most respected citizens. Suffering terribly from appendicitis he steadfastly refused to permit an operation and as a result sacrificed the life that might have been saved.
Mr. Linquist was a pioneer in Hayes and lived in that township over 30 years known and respected by everybody, a kind and loving father and husband, a good neighbor and a good citizen, one who will be missed by all.
Born in Salby, Vestergotland, Sweden in 1850, the deceased came to this country at an early age and was a pioneer settler in Hayes. His first wife died 16 years ago and the wife of his second marriage survives him with five children. His two brothers, Alfred and August are among Ida's best known citizens and two sisters reside in the same neighborhood in Hayes, Mrs. Gus Hammerstrom and Mrs. Stoneberg.
The funeral services were held in the Ida County Mission Church of which Mr. Linquist was a member and were conducted by Rev. F. O. Dahlberg and Rev. E. Peterson, a large procession of sorrowing friends following the remains to the Lutheran cemetery where interment took place. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of all in their great grief.
