Augusta Mathilda Lundberg - (1861 - 1954)

Funeral services for Mrs. A. E. Johnson of Wheeler township, Sac county, were held December 15, 1954 at the Arthur Baptist church. Mrs. Johnson was living with her son, Elmer, and daughter Evelyn at the time of her death on 12 December 1954 having attained the age of 93 years, 7 month and 29 days.

Special music at the service was rendered by Hanford Ecklund, singing, "In The Garden"; Rev and Mrs. Forsman, singing, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere"; and Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Lindskoog, singing the Swedish hymn, "Jesu kristi Dag". Mrs. Oscar Olson was organist.

The Rev. Martin Hamlin, son-in-law of Mrs. Johnson, read the Scripture and offered prayer.

Mrs. A. E. Johnson was born Augusta Matilda Lundberg, the first of seven children born to john and Anna Charlotte Lundberg on 14 April 1861 in Vestervik, Smaland, Sweden.

She emigrated at the age of seven with her parents to the United States, coming to Chicago and shortly moving onto live on North Manitou Island on Lake Michigan. At the age of fourteen, she moved with her family to Iowa, living for a short time in Denison and then locating on a farm in Wheeler Township of Sac county, in which township she remained a resident for the remainder of her life.

Mrs. Johnson was married to Andrew E. Johnson on 21 October 1880 at Ida Grove at the age of nineteen. To this union six sons and six daughters were born.

Mrs. Johnson’s conversion was testified to in the waters of baptism on 16 April 1876 at the Kiron Baptist church. Her present membership was with the Arthur Baptist church.

She is preceeded in death by her husband, Andrew; her son, Joseph and three daughters, Josephine, Lillian and Minnie. She is survived by five sons; Elmer and Seth of Kiron. Emil of Odebolt, Henry of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Enoch of Minneapolis; three daughters: Mabel (Mrs. Martin Hamlin) of San Jose, California, Esther (Mrs. Joe Samuelson) and Evelyn of Kiron; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren ands other relatives.

Out-of-town relatives at the service were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; Enoch Johnson, of Minneapolis; the Rev. and Mrs. M. C. Hamlin and grand daughter, Deborah, of San Jose, California; Howard Samuelson of Oelwein, Conwell Johnson of Ames, the Rev. Henry C. Johnson, Jr. of Waupun, Wisconsin; Pvt. Charles Hamlin of Fort Knox, Kentucky; Audrey Samuelson of Minneapolis; Ruth Samuelson of Des Moines; Elaine Ecklund of Des Moines; Ruth Ecklund of Ames; Ruth Ecklund of Elgin, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Clauson of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ecklund of Denison; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Maddison, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Ecklund, Mrs. Port Quimby, of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Martin O. Johnson, of Schaller; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Johnson, of Peterson and Ernest Johnson of Gillett Grove.
