Obituary of Alfred Nelson - (1863
- 3 June 1938) -- Kiron News
Alfred Nelson born February 21, 1863 in Osjo, Skane Sweden, passed
away June 3, 1938 at Odebolt at the age of 74. He came to the
United States with his parents in 1871 and settled in Marshall
county, Iowa. In 1877 the family moved to Sac county, Wheeler
township. Alfred Nelson began farming for himself in 1882 and
farmed until 1919 when he moved to Odebolt where he has lived
ever since. March 14, 1892 he was married to Anna Peterson. Mrs.
Nelson passed away 2 years ago. One child, Gladys, also preceeded
him in death in 1918. Twelve children are living, Albert, Elmer,
Sydney, Francis and Mrs. Esther Cronquist, all of Odebolt. Will
and Mrs. O. E. Bergren of Kiron, Vern of Boyer, Glenn of Arthur.
Mrs. Dorothy Potteiger of Omaha, Mrs. Tripp of Bishop, Cal, and
Mrs. H. Nelson of Oakland, Cal. He leaves also 26 grandchildren
and 5 great grandchildren.
Two years ago Mr. Nelson fell and broke his leg. It seems as though
he was never really well after that accident. During the past
year he was bedfast and was patiently cared for by his daughter,
Friends join in expressing their sympathy to the children in the
passing of their father.
The funeral services were held at two o'clock at the home Monday
afternoon and interment made in the Odebolt cemetery. The pallbearers
were, Frank Searight, Arvid Peterson, Ernest Kullberg, Oscar Johnson
and John Beuhler.
Friends and relatives from a distance were, Mrs. Jorgenson and
son, Arnold, and wife of Holstien, Mrs. Ed Anderson and daughter,
Mable, of Holdridge, Neb., and Mr. and Mrs. Kruse of Schleswig.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Jensen of Des Moines, and Miss Mary Cronquist
of Minneapolis, spent Sunday at home but were unable to remain
for the funeral of the ladies grandfather.
