Alvin Leonard Nelson - (1898 - 1970)

Alvin Leonard Nelson, 72, a resident of Colton California died Sunday, 3 May 1970 at Redland Community Hospital, Redlands, California. He had been ill since December 1969.

The son of Oliver and Louisa Peterson Nelson, he was born 10 Nov 1898 in Hayes township, Ida County, Iowa.

He attended the country Arthur Evangelical Free Church. He accepted Christ as Savior and was baptized at the age of 17 along with 15 others in a stream at Kiron, Iowa in early September 1915. He spent his early years on the farm in Hayes township. Later he worked for the Railway Express Agency in Red Oak, Iowa. At the time of his retirement he was a Pullman Conductor with headquarters in Los Angeles, California.

He enjoyed his retirement and made two trips abroad as well as numerous trips in this country.

He leaves to mourn one brother, Oscar Nelson of Altoona and three sisters, Alice Nelson of Prairie City, Iowa, Mrs. B. D. Silliman (Faye) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Mrs. Ray (Sophia) Garrett of Altoona, Iowa; one niece Mrs. G. Keith Bell of Colfax, Iowa and loyal and devoted friends.

Preceding him in death were his father and mother, one sister and a brother, Clarence.

Funeral services were held Thursdsay, May 7, 1970 at 2 p.m. at the Christensen Funeral Chappel. The Rev. Robert Lundberg will officiate.

Burial was in the Hayes Township Cemetery.
