Faye Nelson Carlson
Age 86 of Kiron, Iowa
Faye Carlson was born on a farm in Sac County, rural Kiron, Iowa, January 6, 1916, the daughter of William and Ruby Elizabeth Waggoner Nelson, Sr. She was raised in the Odebolt and Kiron areas being graduated as valedictorian from the Kiron High School with the Class of 1933.
On April 25, 1935, Faye was united in marriage with Willard Lowell Carlson at the Methodist Parsonage in Denison, Iowa. They made their home on the farm west of Kiron where there union was blessed with four children, Sandra, Kaye, Gary and Patsy. In 1968 Willard and Faye moved to their home in Kiron where she had since resided. Faye was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she and Willard especially enjoyed going to visit their children and taking the grandchildren camping. Other interests she enjoyed through the years included crafts, sewing, cooking, vegetable and flower gardening, fishing, camping and bird watching. In earlier years she had been a 4-H leader twice and was currently a member of the Kiron Coffee Club and Town and Country Club. Before it closed she attended the Evangelical Free Church in Kiron.
Willard died October 29, 1996 and Faye continued to reside in her home in Kiron enjoying visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Faye died at her home in Kiron, Saturday, June 29, 2002. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 86 years, 5 months and 23 days.
Including her parents and her husband, Faye was preceded in death by two brothers, William A. Nelson, Jr. and Lea A. Nelson.
Those remaining to cherish her memory include her four children and their spouses, Sandra and Thomas Fogarty of Tucson, Arizona, Kaye and Elton Aldrich of Wiggins, Colorado, Gary and LeAnn Carlson of Kiron, Iowa and Patsy and Vernon Weldin of Williams, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Nelson and his wife, Mary of Tucson, Arizona; three sisters, Jessie Benson of Denison, Iowa, Jean and her husband, Lu Indorf of Springfield, Arkansas and Lynn Wulf of Smithland, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Golden Nelson of Kiron and Sneezy Nelson of Schleswig; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2002, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron with the Rev. Glenn Lundahl officiating. Music for the service included the congregation singing, "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace" with Margaret Ann Buller serving as organist. Interment was at the Kiron Cemetery, Kiron, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
