Carl (Charlie) M. Olson Born

Carl M. Olson was born in Halsingborg, Skåne, Sweden, 27
He received his schooling while in Sweden. He came to this country
in April 1880 and settled in this community, and on 15 March 1883
he was united in marriage to Albertina Erickson of Kiron(Kiron).
To this union were born three children, two daughters, Selma (Mrs.
Oscar Peterson) who passed away in 1927 and Alma (Mrs. Herman
Christiansen), and one son, Edward. His wife preceded him in death
on 24 June 1897. On 8 July 1908 he was united in marriage to Minnie
Tuline, who passed away 31 May 1931. On 4 Dec. 1908 Mr. Olson
was baptized and united with the Kiron Baptist Church where he
has been a faithful member up to the time of his death. Mr. Olson
has lived in this community for over sixty years, and has engaged
in farming until 1906 when he retired and moved to Kiron.
During the year of 1907 Mr. Olson made a trip to Sweden, and only
last winter visited with relatives in California. Since last August
he has been confined to his bed on account of illness and was
lovingly cared for in the home of his daughter and son in law
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Christiansen. He passed peacefully away Thursday,
5 March 1942 at 12:15 pm at the age of 89 years, 7 months and
6 days. He is survived by his daughter and son, both of Kiron,
four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, all of California,
and other relatives and many friends.
Mr. Olson was highly respected and honored as a citizen of this
community, always quiet and unassuming in his ways. He was a real
Christian who loved the Lord and loved to read the Bible. He delighted
to look forward to the visits of his pastor, Rev. W. W. Johnson,
and enjoyed to talk of spiritual matters. His longing was to depart
from this present life, to be with the Lord.
Funeral services were held Saturday, 7 March, at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Christiansen, and 2 o'clock at the Kiron Baptist
church with the Rev. A. W. Erickson of Arthur, officiating. Rev.
Herbert Johnson of the Bethel Lutheran Church sang a Swedish song.
Some of Mr. Olson's favorites, "Trygare Kan Ingen Vara".
"Rock of Ages" was sung in duet by Mrs. Elmer Wilson
and Mrs. Eldon Clauson.
Pallbearers were: Adolph Salmonson, E. N. Sandstrom, C. S. Johnson,
Oscar Danielson, Alvin Winquist and V. H. Youngquist. Burial was
at the Hayes Township cemetery.
