Esther Johnson was born April 7, 1899 on the family farm south of Arthur in Hayes Township of Ida County. She was a daughter if Carl J. and Annie Palm. Esther attended country schools in the area through the eighth grade. On August 30, 1959 the was united in marriage to John L. Johnson in Emmetsburg and resided there until August of 1975 when she moved to Arthur. Her husband died on March 14, 1970 in Emmetsburg. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Arthur and was faithful and loyal in her service to her church.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband and a brother Elmer. She is survived by two brothers , Emanuel Palm of Mesa, Ariz., and Arthur Palm of Arthur; a nephew, .Kenneth Palm, his wife Beverly and children Michael and Lisa, all of Ida Grove.

Services were conducted Jan. 10, 1977 at the United Methodist Church in Arthur with the Revs. Sheridan and Mallott, co-ministers of the church officiating. Mrs. Marion Lorenzen was organist and Mrs. James Linman sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "How Great Thou Art." Burial was in the Hayes Township Cemetery with the Christensen Funeral Home of Ida Grove in charge of arrangements. Bearers were Milford Barker, Carl Hedum, B. B. Stephen, Marvin Lorenzen, Wayne Gosch and Burnelle Linman.
