John A. Peterson
John Albin Peterson was born to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Lilja on 27 February 1873 in Skaraborgs lan, Vestergotland, Sweden. He died at his home in Arthur, Thursday 23 juen 1949 at 9:45 a.m. He had attained the age of 76 years, three months and 27 days. At the age of 17 he left his fatheerland and came to a land of promise, the United States. Farming seemed to be the occupation of his choice so most of his years in this country were devoted to that work. Before leaving Sweden he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He was married to Miss Kate Gradin of Arthur on 27 February 1905. They lived together 44 years or until his death. Two children were welcomed into their home, Violet, who preceded her father in death nine years ago. One son Sidney, who with his wife and daughter Donna Rae are living in Schaller. Besides his immediate family he is survived by one sister Miss Tillie Peterson and a nephew Erick Johnson both of Arthur, and five nephews in Sweden. Two cousins Albert Lindquist and mrs. Elof Carlson of Arthur also survive. he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister karl and a sister mrs. Amanda Johnson.
Funeral services were held at the Arthur Baptist church Saturday 25 june 1949, with Rev. A. Blomquist assisted by Rev. C. I. Peterson of Odebolt officiating. Rev. Blomquist sang "Rock of Ages" and "Near To the Heart of God." Burial was in Hayes township cemetery. Pall bearers were Reuben Anderson, Charles Anderson, Ed. England, Joe Samuelson, Frank Lindquist and Elmer J. Johnson.
