Death Claims Mrs. Oliver Nelson of Arthur on 18 march 1935
Arthur, IA. March 19. Louise Peterson was born in Östergötland, Sweden, 27 October 1859 and died at her home in Arthur, 18 march 1935 at 5:10am. having reached the age of 75 years, 4 months and 21 days. She was converted and baptized and joined the Baptist church in Sweden at the age of 16 years. She came to America in 1886 landing in Denison, Iowa, where she spent the first year.
She was united in marriage to Oliver Nelson 30 Dec 1887 at Ida Grove, settling on a farm in Hayes township, where they resided until 1924 when they moved to Arthur. To this union were born seven children, two having died in infancy. The five children surviving are: Alice Nelson of Hollywood, Calif, Mrs. Fay Silliman of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Sofia Garrett of Arthur, Oscar of jamestown, N.D., and Alvin of Ida Grove. She is also survived by one grandchild, Louise Garrett, one sister, Mrs. Anna Swanson of Dell Rapids, D.D., and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband preceded her in death having passed away 16 Feb 1929. In 1912 she united with the Arthur Baptist church where she remained a member until she joined the church triumphant. She resided in Ida county 49 years, being one of the pioneer settlers in Hayes township. She was an invalid the last six years of her life, the result of an injury caused by a fall. She was a patient sufferer, always cheering her friends who dropped in to offer words of comfort to her, her wonderful Christian faith helping her in this attitude and to bear her suffering. Mrs. Nelson was a kind and loving wife and mother, good neighbor and a true friend. Funeral arrangements have not been completed pending word from relatives at a distance.
